PEJATEN BYTES

Pejaten Bytes

Dear Parents and Friends,

Our final assembly for Term 3 took place today, where we recognised significant student achievements.  Congratulations to all those students who received Best Effort or Outstanding Positive Behaviour certificates and to all the prize winners.  We also said good bye to a couple of our students – Dalya (Year 8) and Sasha (Year 10) and we wish them every success in their new schools.  We also thank them for their many contributions to AIS throughout their time at our school.  We also said a temporary good-bye to PE teacher Mr. Dio, whose contract ends next week; however we hope to see him back in January when we reopen on our new campus.

Term 3 student progress reports were also issued today.  We encourage all parents to discuss their child’s progress with them in preparation for the Parent Teacher Student Conversations PTSCs) which are scheduled for Wednesday 28th October.  Details for on-line sign-up will be distributed early in Term 4.  Should you have questions about these meetings, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher or the school office.

No doubt many of you are planning some special family time over the coming break; however for our Year 12 students, the next two weeks represent an important time to finalise assessments and continue their process of University Applications.  Normally Year 12 students would be preparing for final exams; however with the COVID-19 pandemic, exams have been cancelled and consequently we are working on a revised programme for Term 4.   We wish all our Year 12 students the very best of luck as they take these final steps of their High School programme and as they seek admission to universities the world over.

Yesterday we were treated to a video programme from the new student TV Team.  This team did an outstanding job of presenting a whole range of topics related to the challenges of COVID-19, online learning and studying from home.  Congratulations to all those involved and a big ‘thank you’ to Mr. Inga who supervised the group to ensure all was in readiness for yesterday’s assembly slot.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone – students, staff and parents – for their tremendous support throughout Term 3.  Life in lockdown and working online has not been easy, but with our community pulling together and supporting each other, we are getting through.  We will need to maintain this support during Term 4, and AIS will be looking at new initiatives to ensure that we can work together and support each other throughout.

Enjoy the upcoming holiday – even if your surroundings don’t change too much.  Take some time to change your routines and perhaps look for ways to connect with nature.  Here is a mindfulness tip from https://www.edsurge.com/ that might help:

Connect with nature. As we approach the school holidays, it is particularly important that we take some time for ourselves.  Take time for a walk outside, digging in the garden or even looking out your window or at photos of nature. Pay close attention to the colors, textures, smells and sounds. Explore and see if you can find something you have never noticed before—the smell of the air after it rains, or the many different shades of green as you walk through the park. Research has shown that spending time in nature is good for our physical and mental well-being.

Keep well and stay safe everyone!  We look forward to welcoming you all - staff and students – back to online classes on Monday 19th October.
